Tony Blair to see e-governance
in A.P.
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, JAN. 5. The British Prime Minister, Tony Blair,
will have a private meeting with the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu,
during his brief visit to Hyderabad on Sunday.
Mr. Tony Blair will have a glimpse of the strides made by
Andhra Pradesh in e-governance when he inaugurates the Centre for Good
Governance and interact with children of a school in Vattem in Mahabubnagar,
built with help from the UK's Department for International Development.
The fare laid out for the British dignitary include
presentations on e-Seva, the citizen friendly face of the Government through
which one can pay electricity bills, reserve bus tickets and obtain licences,
SKIMS (Secretariat Knowledge Information Management Systems), CARD
(Computer-Aided Registration Department) and FAST (Fully-Automated System for
Transport Department) and OLTP (On-line Transmission processing), which is still
in pilot stage.
Arriving at 10.50 a.m. at the campus, Mr. Blair will drive
straight to the new building of CGG where he will unveil a plaque and light the
traditional lamp. Later, he will spend less than five minutes at the exhibition
on e-governance and walk to the auditorium for the formal inaugural function,
which will last 20 minutes, including a brief five-minute speech by him.
Mr. Blair will next drive to the institute's guest house for
his one-to-one meeting with Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, for which a small suite has
been spruced up. He will field a few questions from the British media and pose
for photographs before leaving for the airport en route Vattem village in
Mahabubnagar district.
Meanwhile, the British security personnel reviewed the
arrangements for their Prime Minister along with senior police officials who
made a dry run of the VIP motorcade from the airport to the HRD Institute in the
morning. The institute was a beehive of activity with hundreds of labourers
engaged in cleaning up the campus.
